They are, stop talking. Too often, people get themselves in trouble by saying too much. The old saying “the less said, the better” often applies in the legal system. One of the most important jobs of an attorney is to help your client learn what to say, and what not to say. Some lawyers even have trouble following the rule; there are times I have seen attorneys ramble on with a jumble of information, much of which does not help their client’s case, confusing the judge. I have also seen people let their anger get the better of them in court, going on about how much they hate their ex in custody cases, making them seem out of control, not helping their case for custody.
Whether you are in criminal court, family court, or civil court, get good advice on what you should say and what you should not say in court.
