DRIVERS LICENSE ADVENTURES

by | Jun 28, 2023 | General Law |

When I recently went to renew my license, I got a little taste of what some of my clients have to deal with. Mine was a regular renewal, no complex issues. The DVS website was not helpful, to put it mildly. Attempts to call DVS to find out what to do were less helpful. The website made it look like an appointment was needed for a renewal, but there was no way on the website to make it and no one answered the phone when I called. I ended up just going to my local license office, they were extremely helpful, no appointment was needed, I was in and out in less than 15 minutes.

Some of my clients deal with much tougher renewal situations; they are looking to reinstate after being suspended or revoked and have a lot of hoops to jump through. Based on my experience, I can only imagine how tough it is for them to jump through those hoops.

Whether we like it or not, most people depend on a driver’s license to work, to get their kids where they need to go, and for the basics in life. The process of getting and keeping the license should not be a challenge in itself, too often it is, meaning that those with less time and ability to navigate the process, drive without a license, turning them into criminals because they could not jump through the right hoops.
