Born and raised in Minnesota, Sara is a 2022 graduate of the Mitchell Hamline School of Law in Saint Paul, Minnesota. Sara was born in Minneapolis but spent most of her childhood in Grand Rapids, Minnesota before moving to Brainerd with her family in July of 2014. Sara received her bachelor’s degree in Psychology with minors in Philosophy and Criminal Justice at the University of North Dakota in 2019.
Shortly thereafter, Sara began her legal education at Mitchell Hamline School of Law where she graduated with honors in 2022. During her time at Mitchell Hamline, Sara served as both a Student Director of the Mitchell Hamline Employment Discrimination Mediation Representation Clinic, which assists employees facing race, gender, and disability discrimination by employers, and as Communications Director of the Minnesota Justice Foundation’s Self-Help Clinic, which assists patrons with expunging criminal records and navigating family law matters including divorce, child custody/visitation, and child support. Sara also served as a Law Review Associate and Editor, publishing articles on sexual assault and racial prejudice.
In addition to her legal degree, Sara received her certificate in alternative dispute resolution which provided her with training and experience in negotiations, arbitrations, and mediations. Sara is also a Rule 114 certified mediator with firsthand mediation experience as both a mediator and legal representative.
After graduation, Sara is moving home to the Brainerd Lakes Area to be closer to family and begin her legal career at Ed Shaw Law in August of 2022. Sara is a firm believer in communicating with her clients every step of the way and looks forward to reconnecting with the Brainerd community and making new connections with the St. Cloud community. Sara is excited to join the Ed Shaw Law team and once she receives her law license will practice primarily in the areas of family law and criminal defense.
In her free time, Sara enjoys painting, traveling, and spending time with her family and friends. You can find a few of her paintings hanging in the Essentia Health Baxter Clinic. And while she has traveled to various places around the world, she hopes to someday make it to Spain, Italy, and Greece.
