Who Gets Arrest Warrants?

When most of us think of arrest warrants most wanted posters and hardened criminals come to mind. The reality, most warrants are issued for minor offenses where people miss court, usually due to disorganization, or court notices being mailed to addresses where they no longer live. Huge amounts of law enforcement and court resources are devoted to arresting and jailing essentially harmless people because they did not make it to their hearing on a no insurance ticket, or failed to mail in their speeding ticket payment on time.

How can you avoid being picked up on a warrant? If you are in the court system for any reason, even a minor offense, either get help from a lawyer, or know how to stay on top of what is needed in your case. If you do not do that you will probably be arrested, possibly at work, which will not help your job situation.

How can the Court reduce the amount of resources going into arresting harmless people in warrants for minor cases? Get into the 21st century, do not just sent notices out by the postal service, communicate electronically like everyone else. Before signing a warrant, give someone a call, send them an email, having them show up voluntarily will save thousands of dollars for the courts and law enforcement.

Warrants should be used for the dangerous, not the disorganized.
