Real Estate

Landlord/Tenant

Minnesota law lays out rules for the rental of houses and apartments. There are specific procedures that must be followed to terminate a lease or evict a tenant. Failure to follow the proper procedure for removing a tenant or terminating a lease can lead to civil liability and/or criminal penalties, and can delay the removal of a tenant who is not paying rent.

Buying/Selling

Buying or selling a home or business can be done with or without a realtor. If a realtor is not used, it is especially important to be sure that a contract is drawn up to cover every aspect of the transaction. State law requires that certain disclosures be made in any real estate transaction.

Boundary Line Disputes
An easement is the right of someone to use someone else’s land. Driveways passing over part of a neighbors property are a common type of easement. Some pieces of land have no access to public roads except for easements over other people’s land. Disputes over easements or boundary lines are not uncommon, but they are usually resolved without extensive court action. When these types of disputes go to court they often create difficult cases.
