Wills
People are not required to have wills. However, if you do not have one, state law determines how your assets will be distributed upon your death. With a properly drafted will, you can, with a few exceptions, absolutely determine what will happen to your assets upon your death. Having a will almost always reduces the expenses of probate and shortens the process.
